Newcomers Melbourne Drum Authority land on Refuge Recordings that has so far played host to music from the likes of Phil Weeks, Manakinz and Sondrio. The future looks bright for these two, with ‘In The Groove’ a deeply musical, continually evolving affair that pairs disco diva wailing with rousing brass, old skool organ keys and wiggling synth b-line to punchy effect. It’s a feel-good affair, imbued with sunshine as you’d expect given their surroundings. ‘Natural High’ ploughs a slightly deeper furrow, with cinematic strings swooping over soulful live bass and sweet vocal strains.
