Interview: Get familiar with Ben Gomori

We sit down with Ben Gomori for the another instalment of our ‘Get Familiar’ Series as we shotgun some questions his way to get a peak into how inspirations, introduction to the culture and his start in the music world!

Q1. When and where did you find house music?

A1. A combination of my siblings and the crossover club-to-chart smashes and Eurodance belters of the early-to-mid-’90s. Cassette 2, Side 1 of the ‘NOW That’s What I Call Music’ compilations was always a good education in those early years.

Q2. What DJ made you want to be who you are today?

A2. My brother got decks when I was 14 and I’d already been following dance music for a few years, so I’d have to say him! He’s a lawyer now though haha… although he did recently buy a DJ controller as he said he was missing it…

Q3. When was your first dj set under this moniker?

A3. I used to go by Benz (which is what my friends calls me… long story), but I can’t remember the fist time I played as Ben Gomori. I was convinced to change my DJ name to what I was known as professionally by a promoter called JC though, so it was probably one of his parties at The Key in London where I first used the name. Man I miss that place!

Q4. What is your go to piece of kit?

A4. For production? It’s pretty hard not to use my Cyclone Analogic TT-303 acid box (a clone of the 303) in ‘most every track I do. Although tbh starting to get lazy and looking at acid plugins now :/ I’m not super gear heavy, just a few bits and bobs.

Q5. Wish List – What do you wish you owned that you don’t have today?

A5. I really try not to covet material things too much but I do a lot of ripping vinyl to digital and it would be great to get a 1210 as my Audio Technica turntable tonearm has a tendency to skip on scratches where 1210s don’t!
